Making money from your website using affiliate program schemes

Affiliate Program Schemes – Great ideas to make money online!

Websites come in all shapes and sizes. Some are created for free information, some for ecommerce, some support off-line businesses and others such as forums and chatrooms appear to exist with no monetary value linked to them. This assumption is not necessarily correct! There are several ways to make money from your website using advertising. These can come from many different sources.

Building your website content and categories

Different genres (categories) e.g. Finance, Business and Travel Sites are very popular. In general the more popular the category and depending on the cost of the item the customer buys (a secured loan will earn you more than a ringtone), the advertiser will pay the affiliate accordingly and you will be paid for the customers.

Therefore, choosing the correct website content and advertisers is key to monetising your site. It is quite a fine art that can be learnt!

An alternative to the Affiliate programs are the Advertising networks. Ad networks that pay on a CPL and CPA (affiliate) model and offers freebie campaigns, which only needs a visitor’s email or postcode for you to get paid for the lead or action. Everyone loves a freebie!

You can find a large amount of good quality Ad Networks that pay on a CPL and CPA model which can prove very rewarding if you match the advertisers on your website to the content and target market you are reaching. If your product is more specialised and niche than a mainstream product, this should work even better.

Online Advertising Networks include:

Some Advertising networks will also pay CPM or CPC. This is paying you per 1000 impressions or when a customer clicks on an advertisement on your website, although not necessarily purchasing anything when the arrive at the advertisers homepage. This model may appear less risk, however the returns you receive will usually reflect this and may be lower depending on your content and type of customer.

An alternative to the Advertising Networks is Google Adsense (see the link below for details|).

Offer Key opportunities to earn money from your website. How? Simple!.. Affiliate programs offer advertisers and website owners pay per performance advertising, this means an advertiser will only pay for customers that the website owner (publisher) drives to the advertisers website through the advertising (banners, skys, text links etc) on the website owner’s site. Quite simply you are driving traffic (people) from your site to a different site and you get rewarded for the customer’s purchases from that website. Not all advertisers request purchases before commission is paid out, some will be a lead, fill in a form or some other action which qualifies the customer.

This type of affiliate program can work extremely well if your website is monetised correctly.. To do this, you need to choose a subject you understand and can write about/start a forum about. The advertisers you choose for your affiliate ads should then relate to both the content on the site and the users you anticipate will visit.

Make sure the ads compliment the page and appear to merge into it rather than sit on top of it. Colour coordinate wherever possible or attractively contrast the content of your website to the advertisements. Ensure the advertisements are located in a highly viewed area of the website and not hidden where they are not noticed!

Your website equally can look very prestigious with well known brand names on the page since it suggests professionalism and kudos this high profile advertisers carry, without any cost to you, in fact you earn money from them!

A Free Alternative To Microsoft Office?

Yes, I know it doesn’t sound plausible! but there is actually a free alternative to Microsoft Office. The software I am speaking about is infact Open Office, and it is Open Source! For those of you who are new to all this (as we were once), open source is a great online movement whereby you do not have to pay to use the softwares, they are developed by very kind people and businesses who offer them for free.

That is not to say that you cannot contribute in order to help them keep up the good work, as we all have to pay to exist (yes even me, hence all contributions to help site development welcomed – email admin@thebusinessidea.com), but their products are indeed free and are very very good, I use Open Office and have done for the past 4 years, it does all the features I need it to and once you get used to the layout (it isn’t that different) it works fine.

So, if you wish to save some money off your start up costs then wonder over to Open Office and get some cool office documents, spreadsheets, databases, visual editors and much more!

Business opportunities and ideas for start ups

One of the very first but key points to opportunities is identifying them when they occur. It may be a pet hate of yours (i.e. bad service or the inability to buy a product locally) that starts out as a problem but can be turned into a challenge and finally an opportunity idea for exploiting!

This involves positive thinking as well as looking around to see what is going on and where the gaps are – opportunities are all around you if you open your mind… Listen to people rather than talking at them, they sometimes offer great inspirations for business ideas without even realising it!

Draw upon your experiences and what you know about, it makes the work far more fun and inspiring, so the achievements are extremely rewarding.

Stuck in a negative rut and cannot think clearly? go to an art gallery, or somewhere similar (and equally quiet) to both clear and open your mind in the silence, as well as to stimulate your senses!

Start with what you know….What are your interests, where do your skills, knowledge and experience in business lie? These are the areas you should be looking further into, since you already know about these subjects and have some insight into the market.

Some of the most successful entrepreneurs gained their wealth not by dreaming up a big idea, more simply by taking an already established idea, working on it, revamping it/updating it, then simply doing it better!

Market research reports such as Mintel, Keynote and others will provide a good starting point when you analyse the market you are looking to step into.

Areas to consider in order to achieve this include:

1. price – be more cost effective/competitive

2. product knowledge – sell your expertise

3. customer service (need I say more!)

4. location – who else is offering your product/service in a 40 mile radius?

5. demand – is there a demand for your product/idea?

If you are searching for an idea, do not dismiss anything, sometimes just looking around the web will inspire an idea to get you started!
